I think there are a
lot of advantages of being a person with KS.
Personally, the best for me
would be twofold; the first being that I'm a musician, and that
creativity is easy for me in a lot of ways, as well as the
visual-memory capability. I can memorize just about everything I
can see almost immediately.
I guess that was two things right there, but the other thing that
I've found to be very advantageous, is a sense of empathy for
others. I'm told I'm a good listener and although that's
sometimes because I can't think of what to say, eventually I seem
to come up with the "right" thing to say. Maybe it's
some kind of "low-grade" psychic ability, or something.
My mom used to say that I was psychic, as I would often come home
bringing exactly the item (whatever that was at the time) that
she wanted/needed. My wife says the same thing.
Maybe also the extra X gives us some kind of special empathy or
understanding for women. I've never been very successful with
women for the most part, but most of the women at work seem to
confide in me on a LOT of different subjects. I've been accused
of trying to "pick-up" a co-worker, although it was
totally false. I just believe in honesty and loyalty to friends
and family.
While some people seem to have problems with reading and
comprehension, although I have to re-read a paragraph sometimes,
I love reading, and have been able to show to my peers and
superiors that I am an intelligent person, but that I have to do
things MY way. I take paperwork home with me, as I can get things
done there, where as at work, I can't seem to operate very
efficiently with someone looking over my shoulder.
Although, I'm still waiting to get treatment and can't imagine
what life will be like once I begin HRT, I still like myself just
fine, and wouldn't want to be born an XY if I was able to choose.
Although I can sometimes be a bit naive, I feel like to be able
to face the world as somewhat of an innocent, is more of an
advantage than people would give credit to.
